me2 Session

What an amazing little girl!!! Last week Sadie had her very first newborn session. Only 6 days old! She is going to be soooooo loved. She already has a very special bond with her mom and automatically knows when she's around. Still to this day I am just in awe of how this instinct is even possible. They know your smell, your voice, and your touch. It's just one of those things that only a parent can explain. One day I can't wait to experience it... though I did get a little glimpse of somethings most don't look forward to. First off as our session progressed we had lots of little breaks. I'm not used to doing these types of sessions and it really is exhausting.  I can't believe how much one little being can eat, poop, and pee!!!  But who's counting... it was only about 3 times she did all of these on mom & dad. Crazy! It's like she knows the camera is around. We thought she would be the perfect little angel since her mommy is a photographer too... but no. You name it she did it. We joked that she was going to give us a hard time with every shoot just because.  Well I'm so delighted to share with all of you Sadie's first baby pictures & the amazing shots that I was able to capture... it's called 'PATIENCE'.

Enjoy...

Rasmussen Flipside Con't...

Ok so this post is long over due! Back in April a group of us went out to just have fun and photographed
Michelle Rasmussen's family (the lucky models). Let me tell you that I am sooooo happy with the outcome! Michelle's family was so awesome to work with especially her kids who are pros by now. Well anyhow... my main goal for the shoot was to capture images mainly for me. Where I could express the ideas that have been bouncing all around in this crazy mind of mine! A lot of times though it seems we ( I mean us photographers) try to please everyone especially the client and in the end we leave ourselves out as the artist. As I'm realizing more and more with every shoot I do... that I'm spending more time and creativity on what I want to capture. Those quirky moments where no one thinks they're being watched or when someone thinks we're just 'testing the lighting' and they began to relax or just laugh. Those are the moments and expressions I've been looking for. So here is my attempt to gather up some thoughts & visions I've been dying to document!

Enjoy...

Love it love it! I was just hanging out above on this grassy hill and looked down to see mom fixing his tie! SNAP! The pattern the concrete tiles make is just amazing!

So after discovering how cool the pattern was... I set this shot up! I really like how you just see a glimpse of mom's hand fixing her shirt! Just one of those little details. Ohh and the little one's ears getting smooched between her legs!

Michelle said it had been a long time since just the two of them had a shot together! I tried a different crop on this one. Really has you focusing on their eyes & Michelle's gorgeous skin.

The little one looked back right as I took the shot! Can't get any better then that!

Tried out some more textures. Love the back ground.

One word... 'Dimples'

Ok so we tried this one about 3 times. Chasing back and forth. This was the expression I was looking for where they didn't even think I was there.

Michelle is so cute and not to mention photogenic. But I can totally relate when she says it's difficult being the one in front of the camera.

Love it! Everything about this image makes me happy. From the super cool concrete wall to the 'laid back' expression on her face. I also tried some textures with this one too!

Pointer of the day

For Photographers...yes I know most of you that come to the blog are fellow photo geeks. So in that case I'm going to post pointers every once in awhile that I feel are super duper!

After chatting with Michelle Rasmussen of 'Rasmussen-Harvey Photography' a few weeks ago...she mentioned
checking out the (b) school. For all those who love little tutorial videos relating to anything and everything photo...CHECK IT OUT! There's tons & tons of information. Some of it might be common knowledge and some of it makes a light bulb go off! Really! It's run by 'Becker' a well known wedding photographer. GO NOW... and don't forget to pre-register for the (b) school so you get in on the big announcements!

Brandon's Flipside (senior) Edition

I wanted to share some images from a senior portrait session I had last week! Brandon did a great job and even had his outfits chosen before the shoot... he gets brownie points for that! We decided to go downtown... where most of my senior sessions take place. I always tell them that I could go down there hundreds of times and it would never get old or look the same. Every block is completely different from each other. One block is rustic another modern....I could go on and on. So here they are!

Little Sweet Sadie

Today I the pleasure and HONOR to be present for the 'after delivery' of little Sadie Lynn Hatch!!! Born 1:55 p.m. weighing 7.5 lbs. As some of you might know Tania & Lashley (the new proud parents) have been friends of mine for quite sometime. Tania and I first met each other at a local portrait studio where we both worked as photographers. As we ventured into our own photo journeys I was able to help capture those important moments that happened in Tania's life...since she wasn't able to photograph her own wedding & maternity. And now her 1st baby!!! Ohh and they plan on having lots. Her husband Lashley is 1 of 7 kids!!! While in the delivery room I asked him how many children they plan on bringing into this world? Well he first said 10!!! But then laughed and said 4 to 5. Still that's quite the family. All I can say is WOW...and that I am so excited that I got the new nickname of AUNTIE CASIA! Here's some sneak peeks to hold ya over...

Progress...

Ok so here's the scoop on what I've been up to the last 6 days... home remodeling! Eric & I started this process at the end of last summer. So for all you newer blog stalkers I'm posting some before & after shots to give a timeline of our progress. It has definitely been an experience and one that I will never forget. When we are all done I don't think we'll move for awhile due to all our hard work and sweat. So worth it though!
Enjoy...

Angle 1
First off here is the smallest bedroom we have in the house. We decided to expose it to the living area for more entertaining space. This is before we took out the nasty brown tile, walls, and ceiling. At the end of the hall is the kitchen on the right and living room on the left.

Now the tiles are up and the walls are exposed showing the studs within the room.

The ceiling is exposed and so are the walls on both sides of the narrow hallway.

Studs are down and so is the plaster ceiling in the hallway. Now the air ducts are exposed and wired to the ceiling for safety.

Angle 2
We are now in the living room. On your far right are the studs from the small bedroom we took out. In the center of the room is the middle wall that separated the kitchen & living room. Plaster ceiling is now gone exposing the beams.

Studs are down in the small bedroom & some cherry beams are missing too from the ceiling. We recycled all the original cherry wood to use in our new trusses that Eric designed!

Trusses start to go up in the ceiling and now middle wall is down and so is the plaster in the hallway.

Another view of air ducts exposed and plaster is off on the right kitchen wall exposing the studs and the main bathroom.

Angle 3
We are now in the kitchen/dinning room. You can see the old floor tile is still down (3 layers later and we got it all up). The plaster ceiling is starting to get demoed. Middle wall is exposed down to the studs.

All ceiling trusses are up! Middle wall between kitchen & living room is gone. Small bedroom on the far left is exposed.

Small bedroom studs are all gone and so is the plaster under the air ducts in the hallway.

Larger view of entertaining area!!! Steel hat channels are going up in the ceiling (these are going to hold the insulation up and will allow us to attach the dry wall properly & evenly. Also the fridge and stove were moved so we could take down the plaster on the far kitchen wall.

So this is where we are at in our home remodel. I am so happy with the progress we have made! Though there is still a long road ahead of us! So stay tuned... as I will keep you all updated with new images. I can't wait for the day that you can actually make out rooms & unique details!
